Graduation Symposium 2018 - Call for Proposals

The Pastoral School hereby makes an official call for proposals for this year's Graduation Symposium set for June 10, 2018 from:

  • Graduating Seniors
  • Pastoral School Instructors

The deadline for submissions is May 1, 2018 to fr.gregory.joyce@orthodoxtheologicalschool.org

  • Papers should be approximately 15 pages in length using Turabian style
  • Oral presentations should be approximately 20 minutes in length with 10 minutes for questions
  • A round table will be held following the presentations to allow for further discussion

If you would like to help with the symposium please contact me.

Graduating seniors will be expected to attend the symposium. The pubic will be welcome. Presentations will be available after the symposium as audio and video files.

Spring Graduation 2018

With the blessing of the President of the Pastoral School, Archbishop Peter of Chicago & Mid-American, the Spring Graduation weekend for 2018 has been set for June 9-10. On June 9 comprehensive examinations and thesis defence will take place at the Holy Virgin Protection Cathedral in Des Plaines, IL. On June 10, following the Divine Liturgy, diplomas will be awarded to the graduates. Following the Divine Liturgy on June 10 the graduation symposium will be held. Graduating seniors are expected to be present at the activities on June 9 and 10. Flights out of O'Hare should not be scheduled before 6:00 p.m. on June 10. Pastoral School Alumnus Visiting Ukraine

During these holidays Priest Daniel Franzen, recent graduate of the Pastoral School, is visiting the Poltava diocese of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (Moscow Patriarchate). Spring Application Deadline is February 1, 2018

The Pastoral School of the Diocese of Chicago & Mid-America is committed to making high quality Orthodox theological education as accessible to as many interested students as possible. Based on this commitment we have made it possible for students to study either full time or part time in our seminary, have instituted summer courses, and accept applicants in both the fall and spring semesters.

Applications for admission for the spring semester are due February 1, 2018. Classes begin February 12, 2018. Applications and further information on the Pastoral School programs can be found at our web site:

Winter Graduation & Feast Day

We congratulate our students, faculty, and staff with our patronal feast day - the day of the repose of St. John of Kronstadt! Today in Chicago His Eminence, Archbishop Peter, President of the Pastoral School, let the hierarchal Divine Liturgy for the feast. Among the clergy serving at the Liturgy was Fr. Martin Swanson, Dean Emeritus, and Fr. Gregory Joyce, present Dean of the School. Following the Divine Liturgy diplomas were awarded to our first ever winter graduating class: Subdeacons Nicolai Lukianoff and Ephraim Galloway. Both had successfully defended their theses and passed the oral comprehensive examinations the day before. We congratulate our new graduates and their families!
